The United Way of Anderson County AmeriCorps program is a disaster preparedness based program that focuses on community preparedness. AmeriCorps is the national service initiative signed into law by President Clinton in 1993. Thousands of Americans of all backgrounds have met community needs, and earned education awards in return as a result of AmeriCorps programs. AmeriCorps joins a long tradition of efforts encouraging and rewarding service dating back to America’s beginning and including the Civilian Conservation Corps, the GI Bill and the Peace Corps. The mission of AmeriCorps is to improve lives, strengthen communities, and foster civic engagement through service and volunteering.
Above all, AmeriCorps helps communities meet their education, public safety, human or environmental needs through service. Every AmeriCorps program is a powerful model for communities to apply in their problem solving.
This program is supported through a partnership with the Corporation for National and Community Service and The United Way Association of South Carolina.
