The African American Leadership Society of United Way of Anderson County will host its 12th Annual MLK Day of Service on Saturday, January 19th. Donations are needed to be distributed to individuals and families in need. The organization is asking that you donate new blankets and socks.
The blankets and socks, along with hot soup, will be given out to anyone who needs the items at The Salvation Army, located at 112 Tolly St. from 10am-12pm.
“There are so many in need in our community and the simple things that we sometimes take for granted mean so much to those who don’t have them”, stated Amika Thomas, Chair of the African American Leadership Society. “Dr. Martin Luther King stated ‘Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?'. This is a chance for all of us to do something for others”, she stated.
If you would like to make a donation, you can drop your items off at the United Way office located at 604 N. Murray Ave. (at the corner of Murray Ave and E. Greenville St.). Donations need to be received no later than January 16, 2019.
