Volunteering
An investment in your community can be made financially or physically. You don't have to write a check to contribute. (United Way of Anderson County) utilizes many volunteers – on our Board of Directors, African American Leadership Council, Success By 6 Advisory Board, Campaign Cabinet, Community Impact Vision Councils and more. We encourage agencies to use volunteers actively and efficiently. We encourage you to be a part of our spirit of volunteerism! United Way of Anderson County Volunteer Center is a matchmaker for volunteers and local nonprofit agencies. We promote volunteerism through education, organization and coordination of volunteers.
United Way of Anderson County even has a special program for teens called the Youth Volunteer Corps of Anderson County. In 2000, nearly 100 teens worked on service projects for nonprofit agencies through the Youth Volunteer Corps. They helped operate camps, assisted the elderly, mentored and taught children, and even painted a house for a low income family. And the fun doesn’t stop when fall begins – YVC runs year-round. When school is in, volunteers can make a difference after school hours, on weekends, and even during the school day.
Every year in April, United Way of Anderson County sponsors the Community Volunteer Recognition Celebration in conjunction with National Volunteer Week. Local organizations nominate their volunteers of the year and we celebrate their efforts at this annual event. This same week, the Anderson Independent-Mail publishes the Helping Handbook which outlines volunteer opportunities and material needs of local agencies.
