On February 3, 2017, at the Hilton Garden Inn, the AALS will host its first Black History Ball. This event will be a sit-down dinner, Black Tie Affair with live music and dancing. Guest speaker will be Jil Littlejohn, President/CEO of the Urban League of the Upstate and City Council Member - Mayor Pro-Tem, City of Greenville, SC. During the evening, three awards will be presented to recognize leadership in the African American community.
- The Emerging Leader Community Award will celebrate and recognize an accomplished emerging young individual under age 35, who represents the next generation of leaders, innovators, and/or entrepreneurs; and exhibits exemplary professional accomplishments and commitment to service to the community.
- The Community Trailblazer Award celebrates and recognizes an individual who has made significant contributions to the community through his/her involvement in volunteer activities and/or special achievement in specific areas of community and professional life. This individual is a current visionary and dedicated leader who is doing extraordinary work and addressing critical issues in the community. He/She exemplifies United Way’s core mission of improving our community by providing leadership in identifying needs, securing & leveraging resources and driving action. This individual strives to advance community-driven, innovative and sustainable solutions to critical issues facing Anderson County and the community at large. The Nominee must be currently actively involved in the community.
- The Community Legacy Award recognizes a pioneer in the community, who through the years, has fought, worked, advocated, and produced change through their community service, their voice and their dedication. Through their efforts, this individual has created lasting change and measurable difference in our community. He/She has made significant contributions, both personally and professionally, to the betterment of Anderson County and serves as a role model in community leadership. This individual has an established history of distinguished service, where he or she exhibited leadership, provided inspiration, and gained recognition and respect from peers and the community over a period of at least 10 years.
