Youth Volunteer Corps

United Way of Anderson County has a special program for teens ages 11-18 called the Youth Volunteer Corps of Anderson County.  The Youth Volunteer Corps program runs year-round! When school is in, volunteers can make a difference after school hours, on weekends, and even during the school day.  During the summer youth have an opportunity to participate in YVC Summer Camp.

 

The mission of the Youth Volunteer Corps of Anderson County is to create and increase volunteer opportunities to enrich Anderson's youth, address community needs, and develop a lifetime committed to service. The Youth Volunteer Corps is a collection of young people around the nation who are committeed to serving their communities through service projects. It gives young people the opportunity to change the world around them.  

 

Member of the Youth Volunteer corps also serve on the Youth Advisory Board, helping YVC staff with the planning and implementation of events. This gives youth an opportunity to enhance their leadership abilities.  Current members are Kalyn Price, Evan Price, Matthew Norris, Sarah Parker, Laura Parker, Joshua Bush, Bailee Jordan, Avery Cato, Emily Shook, Kendal-Marie Schamens and Krystal Young .

2011 Fall Schedule

 

 

September

 

10th- Whitehall Elementary School: We will be doing cleanup and general yard work at the park beside the school. 

 

Time: 9:00am -12:00pm

 

Where: Whitehall Elementary School (702 Whitehall Road)

 

 

17th – Upstate Homeless Coalition:  We will be assisting with a cook-out for the clients of the Upstate Homeless Coalition.
Time: 10:30am -2:30pm
Where: North Anderson Community Presbyterian Church (4200 Liberty Highway)

 

 

24th – Calvary Home for Children:  We will be doing general yard work – must wear old clothes and closed toe shoes.

 

Time:  9:00am – 12:00pm

 

Where:  Calvary Home for Children (526 Simpson Road)

 

 

October

 

1st – Literacy Festival:  We will be helping with child games and activities.

 

Time: 10:00am – 2:00pm (Volunteers work 8am-3pm)

 

Where: Anderson Mall (inside mall, in front of Belk department store)

 

Additional Info: Volunteers may work whole time or choose shift from 8am-12pm or 12pm-3pm. Lunch from food court will be provided.  We need over 30 volunteers for this event so please sign up ASAP!

 

 

8th - The Garden House:  We will be hosting a Ho Down for the residents with Square Dancing

 

Time: 10:30am – 12:15pm

 

Where:  The Garden House (201 Edgebrook Drive)

 

 

November
5th – Special Populations:  We will be making Thanksgiving crafts.

 

Time: 10:00am -12:00pm

 

Where: Special Populations - Old McCant’s School (105 South Fant Street)

 


19th – Project to be planned by the Youth Advisory Board

 

 

December
3rd – Richard Campbell Veterans Home:  We will be making Christmas Ornaments with the residents.

 

Time: 2:00pm – 3:00pm

 

Where:  Richard Campbell Veterans Home (4605 Belton Highway)
