Strengthening Neighborhoods
Vision: Residents and neighborhood partners come together to provide safe neighborhoods, affordable housing and a sense of connection that is vital to improving quality of life in the community.
Safety
Goal: Increase the number of neighborhoods that are safe.
- Support neighborhood efforts that ain to decrease crime. (ex. Development of crime watch groups/resident patrols, facilitating relationship between groups and local authorities, developing othe safety measures such as lighting)
Affordable, Adequate, Housing
Goal: Increase home ownership rates and access to affordable, quality rental housing.
- Support programs and partners that provide housing education and counseling such as
- a) consumer education programs related to cred and predatory lending practices
- b) individual consumer credit counseling programs
- Support programs and partners that increase homeownership and retention of homeownership.
- Support housing opportunities/needs for special populations such as Seniors or disabled individuals.
Community Connection & Civic Involvement
Goal: Increase the number of residents who are engaged in neighborhood activities and leadership opportunities in the community.
- Engage and empower grassroots leaders to improve their own neighborhoods.
Conduct outreach programs to identify or develop leaders; support and train these leaders
Provide logistical support to neighborhood groups
- Convene a council or alliance of associations to provide an opportunity for networking, collaboration, etc.
Infrastructure and Blight
Goal: Improve infrastructure and reduce blight.
- Facilitate information sharing between government/public entities and neighborhood associations
- Support community partners by encouraging, advocating for reuse of vacant facilities for business recruitment
- Encourange community partners and/or support programs and efforts that target specific site(s) to pilot a holistic neighborhood plan
