Developing Self-Sufficiency
Vision - All people in Anderson County, young and old, are self-sufficient, productive members of the community, supported by appropriate education and skills training.
Early Childhood Devlopment and Education
Goal: Increase the number of children in Anderson County receiving a quality early education and development experience as a foundation for later success in life.
- Enhance quality by providing training to childcare providers, specifically through the subsidization of costs to providers necessary to access enhanced training.
- Address need for education and outreach to informatl caregivers of young children and children with special needs: i.e. parents, and family, friends and neighbors (FFN care). Priority will be givien to initiatives that combine outreach on early childhood issues with other education and family support efforts.

Youth Development and School Completion
Goal: Increase the percentage of students in Anderson County who complete high school or earn a high school equivalency and ensure that all youth have the opportunity to develop into successful citizens.
- Support programs or initiatives that address teen pregnancy prevention and education. Programs should address the issue from both the male and the female perspective.
- Support programs for at-risk students that emphasize and enhance achievement of a high school diploma or GED and prevention of school dropout. For example, mentoring, job shadowing programs, etc.
- Support and incrase the availability of quality development and leadership experiences that enable young people to successfully transition to adulthood. (For example, life skills and leadership training, job skills training, intergenerational mentoring, alcohol & substance abuse prevention and intervention programs.)
Adult Life Skills and Financial Independence
Goal: Increase the number of individuals and families in Anderson County that have the opportunities and skills to secure and maintain meaningful, living wage employment ensuring and income level of at least 200% of the poverty level.
- Support and promote the expansion and availability of adult literacy programs, may include innovative or alternative ESOL (English Speakers or Other Languages) programming.
- Support programs that increase employability. These may include programs which address job skills, soft skills training, interview skills, etc.
- Support, promote and/or develop efforts and programs that build financial stability, for example, efforts that focus on financial literacy and education, training and assistance with savings and asset building.
